Whole Faith

What is whole faith?  Whole faith is the faith that you hold on to when you don’t have details of when, why, how, or where that the “what” you need to happen is going to happen.  When we having been praying for something so long, it is very tempting to throw in the towel.  It is easy to want to go according to what our feelings are telling us; that this thing that you want so badly is not going to happen.

Whole Faith says , “Lord, help my unbelief!” like the Father who cried out so very desperately for his son to be healed.  He had been demon possessed since childhood.  He didn’t know what else to do, nor what to say.  The disciples had proven his point of dealing with an impossible situation when they couldn’t cast it out.

Whole Faith says, “Lord, here you go. You are in control.”  We release the situation to God.  We know that we have prayed enough, and we need to sit this thing at his precious feet.  And lastly, whole faith says as Jesus did as he hung on the cross, “Thy will be done.”

Faith Without Works?

The last poem that I wrote is entitled Released. You can find that poem here. Today’s poem is simple, but meant to stir some thought about our spiritual life. God gave us a gift: his Son. When you receive a gift, there is nothing that you have to do on your part. You just accept it. We are told in Ephesians 2: 8-9; “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

When it comes to prayers being answered, we have those of us who say that we are waiting on God, and do nothing. But, then there are those of us who live as if God has answered by acting upon it. Which one is showing faith?

Faith Without Works?

I’ve got faith. What about you?

I’ve got faith. Works added too.

I’m waiting on God to do his part.

I’m living as if he’s already started.

Don’t understand, prayed in my bed.

Well don’t you know?

Without works it’s dead?

Faith Without Works Is Dead

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [ayour works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Mustard Seed Faith

Mustard Seed Faith

Oh yes, it’s faith, The mustard seed,

And God fulfills our every need.

 

And Oh, Yes Noah, he built the ark.

Oh, is it safe? Send out the lark.

Abe and Sarah, they had a son.

God had revealed he was the one.

And Rahab helped with all the spies,

Till they escaped holding the ties.

 

How ’bout dear old Joshua marching ’round

Till walls of Jericho came tumbling down.

 

Oh yes, it’s faith, The mustard seed,

Let’s not forget our good old Daniel,

In Lion’s Den, Yes, God did handle.

 

And then our Joseph told Pharaoh dreams,

With God’s great help, he told the means.

It’s not called faith for what we see,

It’s what we don’t,

So we believe.

 

 

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.

3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
